Day 10 - Forgotten #JusticeLeague
Huntress
Forgotten Justice League members:
The cinematic debut of The Justice League is in 10 days, and to countdown let's take a look at members of the Justice League most have forgotten or never knew about.
Huntress was created by the cooperative input of Paul Levitz, Joe Staton, Joe Orlando, and Bob Layton as a "Batgirl" character for the Justice Society of America. Originally, Huntress was the costumed identity of Helena Wayne, the daughter of the Earth-2 Batman (Bruce Wayne) and Catwoman (Selina Kyle) who had married. The character first appeared in DC Super-Stars issue 17 in November-December 1977.
The character was killed off in issue 12 of Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1986 and a new Huntress (Helena Bertinelli) was created with similar costume and weapons. This character is the daughter of a Mob Boss and operates similar to the original, however with the many reboots of the DC continuity over the years, this character is now no longer active, but was a member of of the JLA since Justice League of America, volume 2, issue 30. Currently, the Huntress is once again Helena Wayne from a destroyed Earth-2 operating on the main continuity's Earth using the name of Helena Bertinelli who has been dead for years, when in actuality the real Helena Bertinelli faked her death and works for the spy agency Spyral.
The Helena Wayne incarnation of Huntress's first appearance outside of comics was in the 1979 NBC Legends of the Superheroes TV specials with actress Barbara Joyce portraying the character. Huntress and Black Canary are the only two superheroines featured among a cast of some of DC's biggest heroes, including Batman, the Flash and Captain Marvel.
